WELCOME
I am a depression and anxiety specialist, and I mainly work from a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) foundation in helping individuals overcome their symptoms of depression and anxiety.I use very similar CBT techniques for both depression and anxiety. I will often describe CBT as being like driving down a country road. If we are not paying attention, we can get a wheel off on the soft shoulder and it can quickly pull us into a ditch of anxiety and depressive thoughts. The idea of cognitive behavioral therapy is to have a firm and quick correction, and get back on the firm pavement (of rational thought). In our therapy sessions, I will help you develop the proper tools and skills to get your thinking back on the solid road and prepare you for future mental “potholes” or challenges.
With depression and anxiety, I try to help my clients develop the tools and skills to counteract their depressive thoughts that may be at the core of their mood disorder. We identify “cognitive errors” in our thinking and learn how to challenge these depression inducing thoughts. The outlook of a person experiencing anxiety is often pessimistic or fearful, so I try to help them create a new mindset and different types of thought patterns that may interrupt their catastrophic thinking (i.e., “What if…..). I think of it as helping them get back on the road to rationality.
I also specialize in sports psychology and performance enhancement and have been working in that specialty for over 30 years. I am now a Certified Mental Performance Coach (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sports Psychology (AASP). Currently, I work as an independent consultant to student-athletes and athletic teams at the University of San Diego (USD) and have done so for the last 9 years.
I offer therapy services in couples counseling, men’s issues, family therapy, parent coaching, coping with chronic disease, managing work-life balance issues, stress management, conflict resolution, and sexual health issues (e.g., out-of-control sexual behavior).

Therapy Services
THERAPY FOR
DEPRESSION
I primarily work from a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) orientation in helping individuals overcome their depressive symptoms.
THERAPY FOR
ANXIETY
The outlook of a person who is experiencing anxiety is often pessimistic or fearful. What I do is I try to help them create a new mindset and induce different types of thought patterns that may interrupt their catastrophic thinking.
MEN’S ISSUES
Men’s issues can be anything related to work performance, financial performance, or sexual performance. We typically don’t look at the quality of our relationships nor do we look at our health or work-life balance.
COUPLES COUNSELING
The most common problem I see couples coming in for therapy is there has been a violation of trust. They may not necessarily mean having an affair, but they are getting “emotionally fed” by somebody or something.
FAMILY COUNSELING, SPECIALIZING
IN TEEN CONFLICT
It’s a challenging time for both the teenager and parents. I try to help them see this as a great opportunity to strengthen their relationship with their child before they launch off into the world and head out on their own.
SPORT PSYCHOLOGY &
PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT
I teach mental skills that can be utilized any time one is performing. Often individuals have performance anxiety; they may have fears as a result of an injury, and they are trying to overcome mental blocks and anxieties they may have developed.
